It’s not just about where you go. It’s about how you experience the journey. After more than 30 plus years in the travel industry, I’ve learned that the most memorable holidays are rarely just about the destinations. They’re about how you feel while you’re travelling, the experiences you share, the people you meet and those little moments that stay with you long after you return home.
For me, that is cruising on a luxury cruise.
There is something special about stepping aboard a state-of-the-art ship, being greeted by a wonderful crew, settling into your oceanview suite and knowing that all the details of your trip have been taken care of. Not constantly packing and unpacking, no worrying about how you’ll get from one destination to the next, and no need to plan every meal or activity. Instead, you can relax, explore, and genuinely enjoy the experience.
It’s the Little Things That Make the Biggest Difference
What I love about luxury cruising is the quality of experiences onboard. It’s the feeling of being welcomed back by name by crew who remembered you, enjoying a leisurely lunch with a beautiful ocean view (every day!), or discovering your favourite spot on the deck to watch the sunset with a glass of wine.
It’s having amazing choices without feeling overwhelmed. Perhaps tonight you feel like an elegant dinner with impeccable service, while tomorrow calls for something more casual. You can spend the day exploring a new city or enjoying the peace and quiet of staying aboard. I particularly love how cruising allows you to combine several destinations into one seamless journey. You can experience different cultures, cuisines, and landscapes while having the ease and pleasure of returning to a familiar suite at the end of the day.
These may seem like small things, but together they create a very different kind of holiday. And on an at-sea day? That’s an invitation to slow down, enjoy the experiences aboard the ship, and remember that you’re on holiday. You can do as much as you like or nothing at all!

Dining Becomes Part of the Experience
For those of us who appreciate good food and wine, luxury cruising can be a real pleasure. Dining is not simply something to fit between sightseeing and the next activity; it becomes an experience in itself. Beautifully prepared cuisine, interesting menus, attentive service, and a choice of dining venues all add to the enjoyment. Being able to dine in a Michelin Star rated restaurant without a 2 year waitlist… enjoying the exclusivity of celebrity chefs and test kitchens… and since the Luxury Lines include this specialty dining, no surprise bill at the end!
Service That Lets You Truly Relax
To me, one of the defining differences in luxury travel is the kind of service offered. It’s not about being waited on every minute; it’s about having a thoughtful, attentive team of people who make everything feel effortless. A personal fond memory of luxury cruising was when I mentioned to the cabin attendant that I loved caviar - I had attended an event earlier in the day and said how much I had enjoyed it. That evening there was caviar in my stateroom along with a bottle of champagne - all supplied without even asking - just the wonderful attentive staff knowing I would deeply appreciate it.
When service is done well, you hardly notice the work behind it. Things simply happen as they should. You feel comfortable, looked after and free to enjoy yourself. That is particularly valuable when travelling to unfamiliar destinations. Knowing that many of your arrangements are being considered with deep care allows you to focus on enjoying the experience rather than worrying about the logistics.

Is Luxury Cruising Worth It?
I’m often reminded that luxury means different things to different people. For some, it’s a spacious suite and a private veranda. For others, it’s outstanding food, enriching excursions, a smaller ship or the ability to visit places that would be difficult to explore independently. When comparing luxury cruise lines, I always encourage travellers to look beyond the initial fare. Consider what is included, the quality of the experience, the itinerary, the accommodation and the little extras that can make a meaningful difference. Inclusions vary, but the right cruise can offer a wonderful balance of comfort, discovery, and convenience.
Luxury cruising isn't about having more of everything. It's about having the right things, thoughtfully delivered, as a one-and-done package deal.
Why I Love Helping People Discover Luxury Cruising
After more than three decades of planning holidays for my clients, one of the most rewarding parts of my work is matching people with the right travel experience. No two travellers are alike, and no single cruise line is perfect for everyone. Some clients want the finest dining and an elegant onboard atmosphere. Others want immersive cultural experiences, extraordinary scenery, or a smaller ship that can reach more intimate ports.

My role is to understand what matters most to you and help you find the experience that fits.
Because when the ship, itinerary, and style of travel are right, the difference is remarkable. You return home with more than photographs. You return with memories of wonderful meals, unexpected special moments, and the feeling that you truly indulged in every part of the journey.
For me, that is the reality of luxury cruising.
The world is waiting! Let's find your way to experience it.
